Our goal is to provide up-to-date lighting design educational opportunities for individuals or small groups, with rare access to hands-on learning in New York City’s lighting industry – including finished residential and commercial installations, showrooms, and manufacturers.

Fundamentals of Lighting
This ten-week course provides participants with an introduction to the fundamentals of illumination. It gives a comprehensive overview on basic lighting principles, lamp and luminaire types, lighting calculations, and controls, as well as functional and aesthetic applications. This course is ideal for architects, engineers, designers, contractors, sales reps, customer service reps, manufacturers, distributors, and students. Delivered in eight three-hour modules. Tuition and fees: $1,500. Dates vary depending on enrollment.

Intermediate Lighting: Lighting Essentials
Lighting Essentials is the next logical step for those who have completed Lighting Fundamentals. This eight-module intermediate level course is for a face-to-face general lighting education program that builds upon the basic concepts introduced in Lighting Fundamentals. This is perfect for those who want to learn more about lighting in general. It is recommended that the participant has already completed Lighting Fundamentals. Delivered in eight three-hour sessions. Tuition and fees: $1,500. Dates vary depending on enrollment.

Post-Fundamentals Courses
These courses are geared to build upon the knowledge base gleaned from The Fundamentals of Lighting. They are groupings of intermediate classes that are organized for those seeking general knowledge (Lighting Essentials), more application-based learning (Interior Lighting Design, Office Lighting Design, Landscape Lighting Design) and those interested in energy savings while maintaining quality (Quality Energy Efficient Lighting).
Delivered in eight three-hour sessions. Tuition and fees: $1,500. Dates vary depending on enrollment.
Master Classes
Our private master classes offer a bespoke opportunity to expand your knowledge and capabilities in lighting design, also serving to refresh and reinvigorate your skills, and to help you gain experience with cutting-edge techniques in lighting design practice. Delivered in seven three-hour sessions. Tuition & fees: $2,500.
Course Work Includes:
A studio environment working on an integrated electric and day-lighting design project
Participating in hands-on exercises to better understand the role light can play in architectural environments
Understanding and applying sustainability in lighting design applications
Privately touring a New York City gallery lighting system; three different types of New York City area residences; lighting showroom; lighting rep agency; and lighting fixture manufacturers
